This dataset compiles georeferenced occurrences and catch weight of sponges collected during ecosystemic trawl surveys in the Estuary and northern Gulf of St. Lawrence. Summer surveys were conducted aboard the CCGS Teleost (from 2006 to 2022) and the CCGS John Cabot (from 2022 to 2024); winter surveys were done aboard the Mersey Venture between 2022 and 2024. It documents the spatial distribution, taxonomic richness and capture biomass of sponges and metadata with survey identifiers. Taxonomic identifications and catch biomass of sponges are subject to ongoing updates reflecting advances in taxonomic knowledge. This dataset contains reprocessed data derived from surveys conducted by the CCGS Teleost (raw data available at: https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/40381c35-4849-4f17-a8f3-707aa6a53a9d), the CCGS John Cabot (raw data available at: https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/7001783a-4dc0-41bc-8932-1dae1e699d91), and the Mersey Venture (raw data not yet published).
