Telemetry-Based Fish Vulnerability Assessment in a Data-Poor Fishery

Telemetry-Based Fish Vulnerability Assessment in a Data-Poor Fishery is an open dataset from Fisheries and Oceans Canada with 4 files (CSV); catalogue record updated 2026-10-13. On CanQuery you can open 4 CSV or Excel files as tables, filter, chart and export up to 10,000 rows as CSV and follow the original downloads. Files are available in English and French.

This dataset combines reconstructed movement paths of acoustically tagged walleye (Sander vitreus) in Lake Winnipeg with weekly summaries of regional fishing activity. Fish movement trajectories were estimated from acoustic telemetry detections using Bayesian state-space models, providing continuous estimates of fish locations through time. These reconstructed paths were used to calculate weekly indices of nearshore and lake-wide relative walleye density. The density estimates were then integrated with regional fishing effort and catch data to evaluate spatial and temporal overlap between fish distribution and fishing activity, and to assess patterns of fish vulnerability to harvest in a large, data-limited inland fishery.
