For over a century, wildlife has been documented on federal protected areas, through incidental observations, bird banding programs and various systematic surveys. Compiled, these records represent a long-term source of biodiversity information in the Prairie region, providing valuable insights into the presence of birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles within Canadian Federal Protected Areas—including National Wildlife Areas (NWAs) and Migratory Bird Sanctuaries (MBS)— across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. This data publication does not include data for Suffield NWA. Observations were collected from June 1932 to August 2024 and compiled from a wide variety of sources including reports, incidental observations, point counts, camera capture, boat surveys, bird banding, systematic surveys such as Breeding Bird Survey and Breeding Bird Atlas and other sources. Compilation of records provides historical overview and a brief summary of wildlife observations across Federal Protected Areas in the Prairie region. These records are presence-only data; a lack of records of any given species at any given Protected Area should not be taken to mean the species does not occur there.…
