Benchmarks
A vertical control survey determines elevation with respect to sea level. Each benchmark is linked to an individual description of the location within the Town of Milton. A benchmark is a brass plaque embedded into a concrete cylinder that sits flush with the ground. The Town of Milton supports the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83) as its standard horizontal georeferencing system. A benchmark, also referred to as a "vertical control monument,” is a brass plaque that is often located on private property.
