Permits - Buildings and Plumbing

Permits are required in multiple scenarios including: new buildings, new accessory buildings (such as a garage), additions or alterations to existing buildings, interior and exterior works to a multi-family building, commercial tenant improvements, major projects, demolition and abatement, plumbing, and hydronic heating. New Westminster residents, researchers, and businesses are often interested in information regarding issued permits, including building, plumbing, and hydronic heating permits. Up until June 2024, the City was providing some of this information upon request to the Building and Plumbing department. In an effort to increase transparency, the City will now be providing this data through the Open Data website.
