All causes and respiratory related ED visits in Ottawa by age and week

Date created: February 2023 Update frequency: Weekly Accuracy: Points of consideration for interpretation of the data: Data are extracted by Ottawa Public Health from the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) Public Health’s Acute Care Enhanced Surveillance Application (ACES). Data are for all ED visits to Ottawa hospitals, regardless of place of residence of clients. ACES categorizes each ED visit as respiratory-related based on the words or codes for symptoms or complaints recorded in the chief complaint section in a patient’s triage record. The categorization includes visits likely due to such diseases and conditions as bronchiolitis, RSV, croup, influenza-like illness, asthma, pneumonia and other respiratory infections and conditions. OPH modified the categorization to include French terminology in the chief complaint, remove visits exclusively for COVID-19 testing and include ED visits due to COVID-19 illness or symptoms as respiratory-related. This means the counts or rates included in this product may be different compared to other sources. The chief complaint at triage may not be the same as the final diagnosis.
