Regional-scale ambient concentrations and dry and wet deposition for 27 particulate elements, Oil Sands Region

Regional-scale ambient concentrations and dry and wet deposition for 27 particulate elements, Oil Sands Region is an open dataset from Environment and Climate Change Canada with 2 files (HTML); catalogue record updated 2026-10-19. Regional-scale distributions of ambient concentrations for 27 particulate elements were generated using dispersion modeling simulations based on recently developed emissions databases. The modeled concentrations were then bias-corrected using measured data and combined with independently modeled dry deposition velocities, forecasted precipitation rates, and literature-based values for element-specific fine-mode fractions and scavenging ratios for rain and snow to produce regional-scale estimates of atmospheric dry and wet deposition. This dataset includes annual ambient concentrations as well as annual dry and wet deposition estimates for 27 particulate elements across a region spanning 114°W–110°W and 55°N–59°N. It is intended to support assessments of the cumulative environmental impacts of oil sands industrial activities on ecosystems and communities within the oil sands region and in downwind areas.
