Canada Critical Mineral Exploration Areas

Canada Critical Mineral Exploration Areas is an open dataset from Natural Resources Canada with 10 files (HTML, ESRI REST, GPKG, WMS); catalogue record updated 2026-10-20. On CanQuery you can follow the original downloads. Files are available in English and French.

The Canada Critical Mineral Exploration Areas dataset is created using the Critical Mineral Priority Mapper evaluating mineral exploration areas across Canada based on multiple criteria (mineral prospectivity, economic feasibility, and environmental sensitivity). Six mineral prospectivity models and three additional priority layers including infrastructure cost estimates, protected-and conserved areas gap analysis, and species at risk critical habitats are used to create this dataset. Details on these layers are provided on the public repository. The layer shows locations with rankings representing areas of high mineral potential, lower infrastructure capital cost estimates, and lower environmental risks. These areas can be further researched for mineral exploration using detailed datasets and assessment.
