The phosphatic iron formation under investigation shows some interesting characteristics. Aspects that set it apart from other phosphatic iron formations are: 1) coexistence of abundant phosphorus and iron, 2) high paleolatitude of formation, 3) location in a tectonically active environment, 4) occurrence of high temperature minerals in an area of relatively low metamorphic grade, and 5) dominance of the minerals satterlyite and arrojadite. Geochemical analysis, paleontological studies and petrographical analysis were undertaken to characterize this deposit. As well, stratigraphic relationships in the phosphatic iron formation were investigated.
