Sensitive ecosystems are often remains of the natural ecosystems that once occupied a much larger area and are increasingly important as human activities change the landscape. These ecosystems are rare, ecologically fragile, or at-risk. The City of Abbotsford is classified as the South Fraser and contains the highest percentage of on many of the region's Modified Ecosystems - about 50% of the regions freshwater reservoirs, old field, seasonally flooded agricultural fields, and young broadleaf forests.
