While women account for a relatively small portion of the federal correctional population, prior research noted growth in the federally-incarcerated population of women serving life and indeterminate sentences between fiscal years (FYs) 2015 to 2016 and 2019 to 2020 (Motiuk & Hayden, 2021). The current analysis provides updated trends regarding the size and characteristics of the life and indeterminate-sentenced population within federal institutions for women.
