Food Microbiology - Targeted Surveys - Final Report - Viruses in Sun-Dried Tomatoes - April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017
A targeted survey analysed 221 samples of air-packed sun-dried tomatoes for viruses. Of those samples, 99.1% were found to be free of viruses. Samples were analysed for Hepatitis A virus and Norovirus GI and GII. Norovirus GI RNA was not detected in any of the samples tested. Hepatitis A virus RNA was detected in one imported sample and Norovirus GII RNA was also detected in one imported sample. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency conducted appropriate follow-up activities for all viral RNA positive samples. No illnesses were reported in association with any of the positive samples.
