Indigenous Boundaries - Core Areas

During negotiations of the Umbrella Final Agreement, Kluane First Nation (KFN) and White River First Nation (WRFN) began negotiations together under one organization, the Kluane Tribal Council, which submitted one map of a traditional territory (Boundary) on behalf of both KFN and WRFN. Attempts were made to reach agreement with KFN and WRFN on how the map should be divided between both groups. As a result, a “KFN Core Area”, “WRFN Core Area” and the “KFN-WRFN Core Areas” map was incorporated into the KFN Final Agreement. These regions are defined in Section 2 as Specific Provisions: Specific Provision"KFN Core Area" means the area identified as Kluane First Nation Core Area on Map Sheet "KFN-WRFN Core Areas", Appendix B – Maps, which forms a separate volume to this Agreement. Specific Provision "WRFN Core Area" means the area identified as White River First Nation Core Area on Map Sheet "KFN-WRFN Core Areas", Appendix B – Maps, which forms a separate volume to this Agreement. KFN signed its Final Agreement, obtaining Treaty Rights, in 2003. For the purpose of this data set, a Treaty Right refers to an Indigenous (“Aboriginal”) right that has been recognized in a treaty.…
