Metal contamination in the Saguenay soft-shell clam, Mya arenaria

As part of the research activities of the St. Lawrence Action Plan (SLAP) and in collaboration with Parks Canada, a 5-year monitoring program was initiated to assess the effect of metal and element contamination to clams in the Tadoussac area. The sites of concern included marinas near municipalities (municipal discharges) and a natural site was selected for reference purposes. One other site was selected due to it being a regular feeding area for the local beluga population. Determining the quality of the food source is important.
