Climate Change Adaptation Workshop for Cultural Heritage Places: Report Series

Parks Canada Agency led a series of climate change adaptation workshops across Canada from 2017 to 2019, with support from the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Culture and Heritage Table. The workshops aimed to identify the pressing impacts of climate change on cultural resources at select heritage places, and to develop potential adaptation options. These workshops should be seen as part of an ongoing discussion regarding the impacts of climate change on cultural resources, bringing better understanding of climate change risks and feasible/effective climate change adaptation measures for National Historic Sites and other heritage places. In time, follow-up workshops should be considered, not only to expand the understanding of climate change risks at these heritage places, but also to continue the exploration of adaptation measures that might be implemented to help protect these heritage places from the effects of climate change. The site reports provide an overview of how climate change is affecting some of Canada’s cultural assets and to summarize the discussions that took place at the various Climate Change Adaptation Workshops across the country.
