BC Treaty Commission Annual Report 2020
The report focuses on two key milestones that have been achieved over the past year; Bill 41, the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, which came into force in British Columbia on November 28, 2019 (Bill 41); and Canada’s forgiveness of all outstanding comprehensive claim negotiation loan debt, finalized in March 2020. The report discusses the importance of free, prior and informed consent as an aspect of Indigenous sovereignty, requiring the Crown to share power with Indigenous Nations.
