Parks within the District of Saanich are categorized as Municipal, Community, Neighbourhood, and Regional. Saanich parks cover 870 hectares of parkland and include 172 parks, 111 km of trails, 29 tennis courts, 4 pickleball courts, 2 lacrosse boxes, 62 sports fields, 57 playgrounds, 3 lawn bowling greens, horseshoe club, 21 sports courts, skate park, and water park. Supplemental park areas are included and categorized as Beach Access, Maintenance Area, and Regional Trail. They represent areas that are not reserved for park by a Parks Reservation Bylaw, dedicated for park on a plan of subdivision, or otherwise formally designated as park, but are available for public use and recognized by the Municipality to be part of the Saanich parks and open space network. Supplemental park areas may include unconstructed road rights-of way within or adjacent to a park, public beach accesses and trail corridors that may, or may not, be maintained by Saanich Parks or CRD Parks.
