2021 Census: Income (Neighbourhoods)
This layer includes data from Statistics Canada 2021 Census of Population with a focus on the 42 unique Neighbourhoods in the City of Kingston. This summary highlights after-tax income data which is a useful measure of disposable income that is available for use by individuals and households. For the 2016 and 2021 Census, income data for the Census of Population was gathered exclusively from the Canada Revenue Agency. For these years, the income data represents a 100% sample and uses actual tax data, while the previous long-form Censuses collected data from a 20% sample and used mostly self-reported income data. It is also important to note the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and the extent to which the introduction of pandemic relief benefits was an important component of income. Custom geography census profiles, including Electoral Districts and Neighbourhood‑level profiles, are created entirely from the long‑form (25% sample) census database. Standard geography census profiles for the Kingston CMA and CSD geographies use information from both the short‑form (100% sample) and long‑form databases, depending on the variable.
