Parkland
Parkland includes defined as parks/parkettes, open space, and natural open space. Maintained parkland includes those that the municipality is responsible for the direct and non-recoverable costs (should incur costs) of maintaining and which are available for public use. Natural parkland includes escarpment land and environmental buffer areas, meadows, forests, and lands adjacent to water bodies. Some natural areas are not accessible for public use (e.g. natural open space, utility sites, school sites). The current measure includes area that may not be owned by the City or accessible for public use. Work to refine this measurement and demonstrate area of parkland maintained by the City and accessible for public use is currently underway.
