Toxicity of naphthenic acid fraction components extracted from fresh and aged oil sands process-affected waters, and commercial naphthenic acid mixtures, to fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) embryos

This study aimed to evaluate the lethal and sublethal toxic effects of naphthenic acid fraction components (NAFC) from fresh, aged, and commercially available naphthenic acid (NA) mixtures. Each mixture was tested on the early life stages of the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) and the assessed endpoints were time-to-hatch, deformities, growth, survival, and embryonic heart rate.
