Crop diversity in Canada

This dataset provides two landscape-level indices derived for two hierarchical ecological frameworks in Canada—Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC) and EcoDistrict polygons—across the country’s agricultural regions. The first index, the Shannon Diversity Index, quantifies spatial variability and crop diversity present in the 2021 agricultural landscape. The second, the Rotation Turbulence Index, measures temporal variability by capturing the intensity of crop rotation changes within fields from 2011 to 2021. Both indices are subsequently aggregated to their respective reporting-boundary polygons.
