This publication contains the International COSPAS‑SARSAT Programme Agreement, a multilateral treaty establishing international cooperation in the use of satellite systems for search and rescue. Adopted in Paris in 1988 and in force for Canada as of August 30, 1988, the agreement provides the legal framework for the operation of the COSPAS‑SARSAT Programme, which facilitates the rapid detection and localization of distress signals to support humanitarian search and rescue activities worldwide.
