This data set was generated to investigate the bioaccumulation of trace metals in livers of scavenging birds, with a primary focus on lead and antimony. To evaluate lead exposure in scavenging birds across Canada, we initiated a national scale study in 2018 to (1) determine the lead concentrations in raptors and corvids, (2) identify bird species and regions at higher risk, and (3) examine antimony (a hardener in lead alloys) as a co-contaminant in lead-exposed birds. Through a multi-agency collaboration, a sample set of 954 livers was obtained from dead and moribund birds brought to wildlife organizations between the years 2000 to 2024.
