Recruitment overfishing in the Spot Prawn (Pandalus platyceros) trap fishery in British Columbia on the west coast of Canada is managed using a fixed escapement system. Fixed escapement targets in the fishery are set and implemented as the number of female spawners caught per trap in the commercial fishery, obtained by monitoring the age and sex composition of the catch. Fishery independent sampling occurs during periods when the commercial fishery is closed to provide cohort abundance indices. See Boutillier, J.A. and J.A. Bond. 2000. Minimal spawner index data exists for the period 1985 through 1994, limited in both number of samples taken and location (south coast only) and are not presented in this dataset. In 1995 a new funding model allowed for a considerable (2 to 3 times) increase in Spring sampling activity, with coast wide coverage.
